Sara Draper is a dance artist/educator based in Houston, Texas and was the founding artistic director of Dancepatheatre.  She has over thirty years of experience.  She is an award-winning choreographer and has shown her works in the U.S., Bourges, France, and worked on a bi-national project in Merida, Mexico.  Her teaching history includes years of work as choreographer and co-director for musicals. In addition to dancing as a member of Chrysalis Dance Company, Houston Contemporary Dance Company, Farrell Dyde Dance Theatre, with other groups and on television, Ms. Draper performed with Houston Grand Opera.  HGO productions in which she danced include Candide (1983), Eugene Onegin (1985), The Mikado (1989), and Carousel (1990). Her love of opera and her profound admiration for many contemporary direction styles have led her to develop programs and services in that area.  She brings a lifetime of experience in dance and expressive movement education to assist singers and opera directors in contemporary staging approaches.  She is unique among dance educators for developing classes specifically for the classically trained singer.

Ms. Draper began teaching open group classes in her Stage Movement for Classical Singers in the 2008-2009 season at Barnevelder Movement/Arts Complex.  The following season she taught  movement lessons for Houston Grand Opera Studio and became it’s Movement Instructor for the 2010-2011 season.  Since 2011 she has taught stage movement and dance to graduate students in the Rice University, Shepherd School of Music’s Advanced Opera Studies class.   She has served as Guest Movement Instructor at HGO Studio and is working as dance coach for several HGO singers for the 2012-2013 season.
